Ballet Talk

Hey, everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week and that you’re excited for the weekend! I realize that I didn’t get around to posting on Tuesday but life got busy, and it’s still pretty busy, so I’m going to make a short post. This week I’ve been really into watching dance videos and listening to podcasts while I’m getting ready, doing chores, etc. I’ve found a few channels, podcasts, and more that I’d like to share with you. I know life can get super crazy at times and it can feel like you don’t have time to do anything, but listening to videos, audiobooks, and podcasts while you’re doing everyday things is a great way to not only learn new information, but also help you get more done. So here’s my short list of some resources to check out!

Dancing in College

Hi bunheads! I hope you’re having a lovely weekend so far. This is my junior year in high school, and, as you might expect, I’m already looking for colleges. I’m not one of the few lucky dancers that goes straight into the professional world of ballet without getting a higher education first, and I’m honestly kind of glad. I’m thrilled to be able to start strengthening my dancing, getting new oppurtunities, meeting new people, and majoring in two of my favorite things.

Staged

“The only light is provided by the street light shining though my bedroom window. I roll out of bed groggy, having lost my full determination days before, as I stand up every joint in my body pops and cracks, my body aches from over-exertion. T-minus four hours and some odd minutes until the first show of the day.”

Happy Sunday, dancers! I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and got some well deserved rest this summer. Back in December of 2015, I wrote a blog post about performing in our production of The Nutcracker on my personal blog, Make it Lovely. It was by far my favorite post to writes, and I loved writing on that blog because I got to write about my story, my experiences, and even the way I saw the world. It was extremely hard to maintain one blog, let alone two, so I had to put off writing on it for a while. I have recently felt as if this blog was lacking something personal, so let me know if you enjoyed this post, and there will be more posts about my experiences.

This intro is already starting to get ridiculously long, so I’ll end t here. If you want to see more posts like this, please share with your friends, enjoy!

The Mirror Image

When I look in the mirror, all I see is a fuzzy, though dancer shaped, blob in the mirror. On the rare occasion that I do wear my glasses to class or that I get to stand close to the mirror, my focus disappears. As I’ve gotten older and more advanced, I’ve spent less time dancing in the smaller studios, and now I’m dancing in the larger studios, further from the mirror. Ever since we were small children, we’ve spent our entire lives looking in the mirror, perfecting every minuscule thing.
